Tuesday May 31

 

This morning we had our last temple prep class. This has gone well but it helps when the participants love grandma so they act nice. When we ran the one sister home we continued on to Ribeira Grande and stopped off for lunch. We picked up the elders and went on a visit to the lady with the twins. What fun I got them to smile and play peek aboo back at me. I miss the grandkids.

We next visited a sister who was one of our first friends she has quit coming feeling unwanted. I guess everyone needs some encouragement sometimes. We came home and went for another visit, but no joy. It tried to rain on us off and on all day. But overall a good day. We love you all.

Monday May 30 lagoa do fogo e chuva

 

It’s p-day again but a bit of a twist. It is supposed to rain all day, and the elders from Ponta Delgada want to hike around the lake. We picked them up at 6:00 and drove up into the clouds. At first it was a total white out but as we dropped them off it opened up a little. There and on the drive home we got some interesting pictures.

We came home ate and sat around at 10:00 we got a call. They had made a wrong turn and needed a ride. We drove to them they were all wet. Oh it was the coldest temperature up there I have seen in a year. 42 degrees. We dropped them off and then just as we got home it started to rain. Then it rained the rest of the day and was still raining when we went to bed. We had our two zoom meetings and it is always interesting. We love you all.

Sunday May 29

 

Today I was up early and ready for church. We had a fair amount of people at our meetings. We had most of the people come who we invited.show up. We had spaghetti for lunch and it was actually good. The strawberry short cake afterwards was even better. We had a second sacrament meeting today. 9 new people showed up out there everyone was happy. We came out of church and it was raining, but it soon quit. There was a nice rainbow.

Next it was home and calling everyone. We sure miss them. We love you all.

Saturday May 28 home from porto

 

Today is a travel day. We got up and while grandma was getting dressed I packed our stuff. We are getting really good at taking only what we need and yet we can change each day. We headed down to breakfast.

Soon we were on our way to the airport. We had the usual lines and waiting but we made it and soon we were on our way. 

We got off late and so we were a little late getting home.

We started the process of getting everyone home and eventually we had success. We made some calls and sent stuff to others, but we stayed in. Grandma thinks we suffer from jet lag, but I think you need a time change. Regardless good to be back. We called Julianna for her birthday. Good day. We love you all.

Friday May 25 porto zone conference

 

This is the only picture I took today, it is the phone of one of the missionaries who was there on the island a year ago when we arrived. He later worked in the office and somehow got my picture and placed it in his phone. Kinda neat. We spent the day in meetings and socializing. It was okay but is important for the young missionaries from the islands to get to see and visit with others. Grandma needs it to visit with other senior missionaries in english. After the meeting we went to a large box store similar to costco then we went for a walk to get a desert. Long day, but necessary. We love you all.

Thursday May 26 Porto

 

Well it’s a travel day. After making 2 trips to the airport we were ready to go. Grandma really likes to see the planes with the words on them.

We soon left and had a good flight. I ordered a ride but our car for 6 people stopped short of us in the line loaded up and was heading out with our driver billed to my card. I stepped out in front and he stopped off loaded the riders and we loaded up. Everyone was very apologetic but I wish we could have got pictures. More adventures. We stopped to leave our bags at our hotel then headed down to the lower level where the river is. There are many old historic buildings boats made up to look like gondolas bridges pretty views even baby chickens.

We had a nice lunch and a vw bug came by.

Grandma liked the pink car with eyelashes.

We saw the results of a car motorcycle interaction.

We walked up to. A park and saw peacocks and nice views. It was so hot we bought water and sat for a while in the shade.

We ended up back at the hotel tired and hot. Later we ate at KFC with a couple from the other island. We got back to the hotel just as the mission President arrived. Long day, but lots to see. We love you all.
