Tuesday November 30

Today was a busy day. The bad part was a lack of pictures. We had language class and then had district meeting and since the district leader was here doing divisions we all met together at the church. After the meeting we came back here and prepared lunch. Tacos, beans and rice, a small pizza, and fruit salad. Great meal. We headed out to visit the ld gals e brought to church on Sunday. This is when I got the picture of the rainbow. We visited and came home. The 4 missionaries used the car to visit members in another town and I as just settled in for a rest when I was called to go to the church. After 2 hours I was done and taking the two missionaries who are from Portugal we went back to visit a recent member who hasn’t attended for 3 weeks. The missionaries had run the car out of gas and with the warning light on I had to go quite a ways to buy some. The car empty holds 7 gallons so I dodged one there and was able to get 7.1 gallons in. We were unable to catch the family home. The house is the most dangerous one I have seen, on a road where the houses are the edge of the road. It is a main street with cars driving fast coming from both directions. You step up on the doorstep and get skinny as the cars pass inches from you. Then back in the road and hurry to the next doorstep. Grandma who sometimes hesitates did well. I think she almost believes that the drivers here could kill you. Great fun makes you feel alive. We drove home in the rain and after a huge detour for an accident got home at 10:00. Good day. We love you all.

Monday November 29

Today is p-day. But first we were up and gave a ride to elder Tonicliffe to the airport at 4:30. We went for a drive down town while we were out and about and since there was no traffic. Not much to see that early in the morning. The elders wanted to sleep so we set off for some new areas. While leaving town we came upon an accident scene where a pedestrian got clobbered by a car. I keep reminding grandma she needs tobe more aware and hustle when crossing streets.

We wanted to go to the farthest north part of the island and drive there along the east coast. That way when we arrived and drove back down the west coast we would have been completely around the perimeter of the island during our travels here. For a good portion of the trip we had already been there and done that. But things change when we are driving ng and can stop when we want. We saw this man made waterfall in a park and found fish tanks and pretty fall colors on the trees.

As you can see the fish tanks cause a selfie. Cool sidewalk art too. We drove and came to where there had been a huge mudslide. Last week one day as mentioned in my blog we had an amazing rain. It caused many mudslides and this was one.

We see this type of event or it’s remains often in the Selway where we hunt. It closed the road and would have meant a long long detour. We arrived at the northern point.

The sign says skinny point. We drove along the coast it had many nice views. This is a more affluent part of the island so nicer homes less row houses larger churches mowed lawns nicer roads. The people are more spread out.

The lighthouse should look familiar as we have been here before. We were told the road down was damaged in the rain storm so we didn’t go down this time. We drove back on the western coast a much faster way home as it is mostly 4 lane highway. We arrived home took it easy had our mission zoom meeting then went for a drive and walk down town. We will use the pictures on a day when we don’t get out due to rain or meetings or such. Fun day. We love you all.

Hallie grandma would make a great witch. There are good ones you know. Our mission president has 3 children 17, 15, and 5. I am determined to learn to like fish. After all why go somewhere and try to change it into something else. I am trying to change me into something else.

Sunday November 28

Well it has finally arrived. District conference. For the last week we have been inviting and reminding everyone of the upcoming event. We were up early and headed out to a distant town to give a ride to two members. In the picture they sort of look like they escaped from the 70’s. The people started showing up but not like we had hoped. We were hoping for 100 but there were only 79. So many who normally attend just didn’t. At least 10 that we had counted on. Some came we had no expectations for. A very good meeting especially the talk by elder Tonicliffe. He talked of letting go of the junk and baggage in our lives. He smiles and always shows a happy attitude. He shook hands and greeted each person spending time with them and making them feel important. Quite a bit different than what happens at a stake conference back home.

Mission president and his wife, elder Tonicliffe, the Tevardes. We drove the old gals home, some nice views.

I love how the sun looks shining through the clouds. We came home and ate lunch in time to watch sacrament meeting with Hunter talking. Great job Hunter. We called to our house and talked to everyone there. Good to see Jim von jake brice and everyone. What fun. Got a couple of screen shots.

We love you all.

Saturday November 27

I forgot to mention that last night we drove an area 70 Elder Tonicliffe to his hotel. We assumed our part was over in this conference other than attending the actual meetings. I was surprised to get a call from the branch president that I needed to arrange visits for the mission president, district president, and the 70. With help from the missionaries I made two appointments and we went. My job was to be quiet. We had good visits then lunch and finally less stressful time. We attended the evening meetings then home. Some of the things happened according to our plans but the real proof will come tomorrow. We sure appreciate the help from the missionaries and the members.

Not bery good pictures but they are all I have. I realize this is short but sometimes stuff happens without much to write about. Grandma thinks I should give more details about visits and stuff, but suffice it to say they went well. We love you all.

Friday November 26

Today it felt cold. I went walking and as long as I was walking it was just fine but when I sat down a bit cool. It still was 57 but it stayed there till afternoon when the high was 63. I know these temperatures appear mild but everyone here is bundled up and look at me like I am crazy in my shirt sleeves. We headed over to the church to do my blog, then we went over and vacuumed out the car. It may be the first time this has happened to the car. We dropped it off at the apartment then off for walk. We found this huge bowl of poinsettias in the park .

There was this huge nativity, pretty rough looking, sort of neat.

We had a nice although shorter walk and upon arriving home we ate and prepared to go on visits. We had success every where we went. People were home we had nice visits, I got to drive fast as usual demonstrate my parallel parking skills the whole bag. As everyone says I may have been born to drive in Portugal. While driving we passed the net making location and there were men making a net I wanted to stop but couldn’t.

We love you all.
