One picture day

 Friday February 27. 

Today was back to work. We tried to take it easy on grandma’s knee. We ate tacos for lunch and they were good. Meanwhile being Friday we were on our own. We decided to quit early and walk home slowly. We had fried rice I made for supper. Not an exciting day, but it is what it is. Love to all.

Just another day

 Thursday February 26. Up and walking early. This walking in the garage is starting to work out better each day. At first the guards came by often probably to see what I was doing. Now they still come through a couple of times but I think they are just on their regular patrols and they just wave at me in passing. All the bosses in our department went to a practice session for the tabernacle choir leaving us peons here alone. We already had a trip to the temple reserved and after that I went home to get some brownies from the freezer to share with the peons.  The power was off and it is 100 steps up to our apartment. They are doing some road work on the street right where we cross it 

 Not much different than at home. They had a table of sorts and 5 gallon buckets for chairs playing dominoes. Then on the way back using a jackhammer attachment on a 310 backhoe. I didn’t watch too long.I went back to work and we finished off the English subtitles for the video. It took more time than you would think. Then because it was supposed to rain we left half an hour early. We stopped by Sam’s Club then home just as it was starting to rain. The power was still off so 100 more steps with poor grandma really struggling.  

We were home maybe an hour when the lights flickered on and off a few times before staying on. Pretty good day. I have to enter all the pictures in one shot or keep signing in each time what a pain. Love to all.

Rain

 Wednesday February 25. Today was pretty normal at work. We had plenty to do and just kept plugging along. We stayed today until quitting time. Now it was raining. We had one umbrella and grandma had her raincoat in my pack. I also used the rain cover that goes over my pack. Looking up the weather it was going to rain for several hours more. We decided to go now. It just kept raining harder so we couldn’t cross the street where we normally do as the water against the other curb was several feet deep. We stayed on the side that passes in front of the temple and even on the sloped sidewalk the water was a couple inches deep. Well we couldn’t get much wetter so on we went. At the top of the hill we crossed over with water going both ways down hill still several inches deep. We looked drowned rats we got home and had to change all our clothes. Worst rain I have ever seen.

Hot dogs

 Tuesday February 24.

This morning I was a bit late going for my walk but I stayed and got my steps in. We headed over to work and started right off trying to update the files. It has to get done so no time better than now. Some how the workers here on this floor decided we needed to eat Brazilian hotdogs. I wish I had pictures but I was so involved with the process and talking that I missed out. Start with a hard roll about the length of a hotdog bun only really big. Think french bread size. Cut it open and remove some of the center bread the soft part and then the hotdog. They are cooked a long time in water with lots of onions and peppers and spices really good tasting. Then catsup,  mustard, mayo. Then really fine shoestring chips, this salsa like stuff made of cabbage and onions and cilantro or not , peppers , and vinegar. Then they put real mashed potatoes until it’s huge. No way I can eat this even when I sneak up on it with my tiny mouth. They are really proud of this hotdog and it’s good just difficult to eat. Sometimes these people are to nice to me. It was like a birthday party. After lunch we started writing subtitles for a video in the humanitarian department. It was a video made for the church by the group that does the water filters for the indigenous people of the amazon river area. It took a long time and we didn’t get it all finished today. Next we went home. One of the young girls in our office cane home and helped grandma dye her hair. Then we had tacos and for dessert strawberry short cake. Big day of eating. It was about 7:30 when we walked her down to the metro. There was a huge police presence in riot gear and helmets. They stand around the metro entrances as there was an AcDc concert in town. We walked back home slowly. Fun day. Love to all.

Blue shirt day

 Monday February 23. Well back to work, but today I have things to do. But first I went walking on the garage level while it was dark. Easy walking as there is no traffic but more important no hills. At work we learned that we needed to visit a university so hence the blue shirts.

This was a neat visit. They are training graduate students in facial reconstruction and making new facial features out of rubber and plastic that are held in by magnets. I should have taken more pictures but was concerned about privacy. Suffice it to say it was amazing the difference for the people involved. The people spoke clearly and without accent that can make it difficult to understand. We had a great time but grandma had a hard time walking. We all had to go slow. We see a lot of art on the buildings some very nice

Back to work helping the education department until time to quit then FHE and home in the dark. A very nice day. Love to all.

Sunday

 Sunday February 22. I was up and walking just after sunrise at 6:10. I wanted to see some new country so I headed in on a different street. These huge buildings are being constructed of cinder block. During the day I saw more piles of blocks were being raised by crane. There were several more abandoned cars along the street. I judge them to be abandoned when they look sun baked and have multipal flat tires. 

Then I saw some chickens and realized I knew where I was. 

I walked a long ways before heading home . I saw some cool stuff even though I didn’t take a lot of pictures. This is a fairly rich neighborhood with security men in cars and huge houses.

Notice the ducks in the car. I walked fast going home but it was mostly down hill. Next it was church then home where grandma cooked chicken and rice. This is the first time she cooked a whole meal here. Pretty nice. We watched Lydia’s talk after coming home from her mission. Then we talked to all our kids and a bunch of grandkids. Great day.
