Burger king

Well today will be a busy day. We went for a walk a bit later than usual and of course we saw new and different things. We came on the  fire station, along with other city buildings. It is a bit strange but the statues here have plaques telling who the statue is of, but they always have a bigger plaque with the name of who was in charge when the statue was placed. Create your own legacy I guess. Last night without much help from me grandma is scheduled to learn how to cook rice and beans like a brasileira. With a nonmember of course. All this because l taught her to say I like, I want, and I am going to. Say these simple words and add a verb and you are having a conversation. Well we are home again and it went pretty good. Grandma spoke some and the food was great. The best I have had in a long time. Rice and beans cooked by a brasileira is hard to beat. We hurried home for our tutor in português. Class was okay, she had me typing emails in português and I thought spelling in English was hard. We went walking to the post office but I was confused, we will have to buy a post card somewhere else. Well now for the Burger King story. Here in Portugal they love  American eating places. They have to name a few Pizza Hut, McDonalds, domino’s pizza, Kentucky fried chicken, and Burger King. When you eat at these places they are better then back home, and sometimes a little different. Pizza hut puts a few odd combinations on their pizzas, and dominos slices fresh tomatoes on theirs. Burger King actually serves a bigger and better whopper than we get at home. The other neat thing is it’s the only place the missionaries have found that has free refills on the drinks. So we order two whopper meals and they start organizing our tray. The cups get put on the tray, the whoppers are next and then the fries, they even asked me if I wanted catsup for the fries. Did I mention the girl running the register was on her first day so the manager was hovering. I think because they could tell we were Americans that they were trying especially hard. So we filled our cups with orange fanta and sprite combined and then we needed straws. It is considered more correct here to drink with a straw even from a can. I went back up and I got not only straws but also caps for the cups, and being the nice guy that I am the girl at the register taught me what they are called in português. The straws had this cellophane wrapper and I finally figured out how to get it off, you pull on the end that is serrated down about 1 inch and it snaps off. Grandma didn’t see the serrated part so I grabbed hers to open it. Her’s was a bit harder and when the end snapped off I knocked over my soda. Grandma grabbed her cup to move it out of way and wouldn’t you know it spilled all over the place too. Luckily the paper tray liner sort of floated so our food was fine but what a mess. The nice girl at the register came to help but had to make several trips to just get the table cleaned up. She brought a new tray, so our food was good and hey free refills right? Well the food was great and when we left there was still a big orange puddle on the floor. I hope the new girl still has a job. Notice they call it flame grilling. It may be a while before we go back.
