Monday January 1

Today is p-day and it’s not raining. I got up and baked a cake early in the morning. Wee were going with the young missionaries to pinhal de paz (peaceful forest) to look at the scenery and have lunch. We stopped and bought a few items then headed out. After dropping two of the missionaries off we went back and picked the others up at a bus stop that was close by. We walked up to the lookout and spent time there looking out over the island. For me it never gets old.
Quite a crew an elder from Swedan, one from Florida, one from Brazil, a Tongan elder from Utah, and us. Even though the wood was damp I managed to get a roaring fire going and we cooked 18 long hotdogs.
Each elder ate 4 so with chips and soda they still had room for cake. We walked through some of the areas. The flowers are mostly dormant so other things are more apparent. This plant has huge long stiff branches surrounded by short hooked thorns that grab your clothes. Sort of a nasty plant.
We got everything put up and dropping two elders at a nearby bus stop we returned the other two out to Ribeira Grande. While there we stopped at the American store to get grandma her lifesaver candies and a box of hair color. Notice a familiar prduct.
Not bad at almost $21. We came home and did the cleanup from the cookout then a mission zoom meeting, then a zoom meeting of the senior missionaries. They seem old but we are the same age or slightly older than all of them. We had some left over stew for supper then Hunter called. He flies tomorrow so good to visit with him. Good day fairly enjoyable. We love you all.
