Tuesday January 18

Today was extreme. My weather app said 100% chance of rain and even warned of rain disturbances, but it didn’t really prepare us for what started happening. About 8:00 it started to rain hard. It was interesting to sit inside and watch out the window.
We stayed in and the branch president called as he had tested positive for Covid-19. We as you remember spent several hours with him in the car Friday so we did a test and grandma and I tested negative. After lunch the rain let up a little so we went to buy gas. Where we buy gas is down by the coast so we drove down and parked where we could see the waves. You should be tired of hearing about the waves and seeing pictures but with the wind blowing so hard it was surprising how high the waves and water went up. In some places the water would go up and the wind would drive a sheet of water over the road or whatever was up on that level.
We decided to drive down the coastline where we walk so many days. We stopped where we have swam before and it was awash with waves and the water was in the area that was protected by a short seawall was  flooding everywhere.

We drove some more  and had curtains of seawater splash over the car. We parked again and I walked over to look. The wind was blowing so hard I feared it would rip my rain jacket to pieces or off me. I was leaning hard into the wind just to stay on my feet. I wanted to take pictures but worried the phone would be blown out of my hand. I snuggled against a building where there was a little break from the wind and got a few pictures but they don’t do this storm justice. I loved it. A storm like this at home would take roofs off houses.

We went home and had to close the metal shutters down over some of the windows as the wind was driving the rain right through around the windows. The wind finally slacked off and we went out and visited people for several hours. There were crews clearing mud off the road and in places water was running across the road. Sometimes paradise changes her mind. We came home it was still raining but not so hard and the wind was done. I liked it all, but it would have been a bad deal if you were here on vacation not much fun to be a tourist sitting in your hotel. We love you all.

I will never get tired of your pictures or narrative of the ocean. Wow! That sounded like some storm. I love the power of waves crashing against the shore. I do like everyone to remain safe though. 😁 denise
