Thursday April 14

Today we go to Porto. We were up and over to the airport shortly after 7:00 this morning and after a little waiting in line to get our boarding pass, we didn’t wait long to board the plane. We had a nice flight over and I got an Uber to the hotel we are staying at. Surprisingly it is a nice hotel, we had the four missionaries with us and leaving everyone’s luggage here we set out to see some of the sights. I wanted to try one of the local food specialties ere called a francesinia. This is a sandwich with layers of meat, beef pork ham and a fried egg on top then baked in this orange colored sauce.

It comes with fries and it was okay a lot more than I wanted even sharing with grandma. The price was reasonable and I was glad to try it out. We next headed down towards the river. This river is huge and allows ships to dock here thus the name Porto or port. There are two bridges I want to see as we have already seen most of the rest on a previous visit. We walked a long ways to see one bridge.

Then headed inland to see the other two tiered bride.

Boats along the way.

The university kids here are a little different. They have lots of Harry Potter groups. All dressed up.

The handrails where we went down are covered with homemade crocheted padding.

We passed an old castle looking thing along the way.

Now we had the walk home. One hour according to gps. But for the most part it is uphill. I mean so uphill they use switchbacks to let the cars climb. I know I know suck it up buttercup. In route we ran into a bunch of former missionaries who were visiting to go to the temple with the group from our island of São Miguel. Small world.

There was an interesting looking hamburger place

We stopped off at a market just before arriving at the hotel and then we were done.21621 steps, 8.4 miles. Not a record amount but the climbing was a bit long. We just stayed in and actually got to bed at a decent hour. We love you all.
