Today’s main event will be traveling back to são miguel. The weather today is perfect. Since we have to be at the airport at 9:30 our time we went for only a short walk. There were some huge gardens two had older men with giant hoes weeding in them. One had this strange looking scarecrow.
Another had old cd’s tied to fishing line too blow in the wind and scare the birds away. Earlier from our hotel balcony I had noticed several magpies flying. Later I realized it was strange as there are no magpies on são miguel. Being so far out here many types of birds had to be brought here. We saw some pretty flowers and of course some pictures.
We stoped at a local food store and ate a breakfast of chocolate muffins and different bakery items. One was a small chicken pie even cold it was really good. We arranged for our uber ride and paid our bill. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the airport and the driver said he didn’t speak English. I started to talk to him and asked how long he had been a driver for uber what he had done before and about his family. By the time we got to the airport I knew he had driven 3 years for uber 42 years as an international truck driver throughout. All of Europe including 2 1 month trips with loads to russia, he is 64 years old one daughter a professional singer who is moving to miami to sing(34 years old), she plans on getting to los angeles and he and his wife are planning to visit as he has always wanted to visit tue United States. He and his wife of 42 years have one grandson, his two sisters married men from spain and live in Madrid. One for 35 years and one for 15. He visited each time he passed though Madrid driving his truck and he loved Madrid but liked it best in winter as it was way too hot in summer. Oh and did I mention he said I spoke good português. I had a similar experience when we rode to the motel with the other driver. I must be asking the right questions but I am not doing too good at steering the conversation towards missionary work. All done by 9:30. Okay now we arrive at the airport and being a bit confused I figured to just wait for the elders to help us out. But as we need to learn to do more on our own we checked in, checked our luggage in, passed through tsa,(grandma is getting more tolerant with getting frisked each and every time because of her artificial knee. Then we waited for our plane I have a few pictures of some planes mainly because I like the looks. The planes with the blue birds are ACore’s airlines. The three flags are for Portugal, the ACores, and the island of são miguel. We came to our apartment and it sure was nice to be home. The covid test was not nearly as rough as the other one, for grandma and I,but the two elders had tears in their eye when they finished as that nose swab can be brutal. We unpacked and I grilled sandwiches for lunch. More on those another blog.
We managed to get to talk to Trae late tonight for us. Good to be back good to have gone, we love you all. P.s. women walked up to grandma in the airport and touch her to say they loved her hat and she was beautiful in it, do I sometimes know how to pick them? Also for the grandkids I did finish my Book of Mormon for June.

Poor mom, having to get frisked every time, lol. I'm glad the nose swab went better this time around.
The sky is so blue there, while the sky here has been really cloudy and gray. Awesome pics by the way. Love you, Love Ashley!
Successful trip!
