Today we left and headed down to the ocean in order to change some money. We were a little early so we sat by the area where people swim. The older people seem to be there earlier in the morning like this. According to the gps we are about 1 and a half mile back to the house and that is fairly correct but with hills to climb and descend and even even several sets of stairs it takes about 40 to 45 minutes to cover the distance. Add in a few pictures and side trip to a bathroom and we are gone for about 2 hours. Nice picture of grandma.
Skye wanted to know how far we walk and this is sort of an answer.
Everywhere we go involves a bit of walking. We go to the church at least once a day and that takes about 25 minutes round trip. I guess if you read the blogs sometimes not much happens because we are a bit unexcited to walk more. Compared to the young missionaries we have it easy. The car is available, but parking can be difficult and you still walk a lot. We use the car to visit other parts of the island and to do our weekly heavy shopping. When we walk to the church we pass two smaller markets where we buy a lot of the daily stuff and we like to visit the farmers market once a week for our morning walk. So today we headed over to the church after breakfast and cleaning up. We were there for grandma’s language class and then marked off more members we had been trying to locate. We were back home at 1 pm and I decided to put together taco seasoning from a recipe found on the internet. It was interesting and I was able to make tacos with it right away. They were surprisingly good. We are trying to make sour cream and though it still needs a little tweak it was good enough to make it the bip (best in Portugal). Now in order to not just sit around we headed for some follow up visits around 7 pm. Here in Portugal this is prime time. The first house asked us to come back at 8:30 so we went to check out the next one. Before you know it we are right back in the same area we were in this morning. But the street activity was changed lots of people dining in the restaurants I didn’t know they had carriage rides or hotdog venders every block.
It was a whole new look. We found a statue of st. Michael or são Miguel for whom the island is named for.
We swung back and visited the first place and now had about a mile walk back to the apartment. We do live above the ocean so it really is uphill all the way. Not strange to say we were a little tired and walked a lot slower taking about 30 minutes to cover the mile. If I were to guess we walked about 7 to 8 miles today, but it is getting easier. We are not complaining so no need to suck it up buttercup. It was a good day. Love you. For Jordan cool little electric car where you sit behind the driver it is licensed like a motorcycle.

That electric car looks weird but cool. That"s crazy how much you guys walk in a day. Love the flowers, and the picture of grandma! Love you both! Love Ashley!
I hope you get to go on a carriage ride. Looks fun. So does the electric car.
