The Other Island

Well today is a travel day. It seems like whenever it is time to go back everything starts to take longer. Perhaps I am trying too much to be in control. We had to kind of move right along when we got to the airport at 10 am check-in was a little slow one bag was 1 kilo overweight so we had to stop and stuff some from one suitcase to the other. Then straight to the boarding gate and everyone has to wait in line with no benches to sit on. When we got allowed past that point there were the benches but now we were in line to board. Suck it up buttercup. I got in the wrong seat at first and had to move into the one on the wing with the exit. Tons of leg room. The fight seemed to go long but hey we arrived and started to wait.

Terceira island is the second largest island and the only other one where there are missionaries, two sisters.  Since we were on separate flights we had some serious wait time. I tried to rent a car, but all the cars were already gone. So I went out and talked to the taxi drivers. I had a good time visiting with them, and they were helpful. Next we went to eat lunch at the cafe in the airport, but after standing in line most of an hour they were out of menu items until they could cook more about an hour. I bought 2 ham and cheese sandwiches and 2 bottles of water but forgot to ask for mayo on the sandwiches and now the line went about an hour deep so suck it up buttercup. After 3 hours waiting the elders from são miguel and the sisters here in terceira arrived after they finished their COVID-19 tests I tried to get a taxi van. Now I can’t find one. We finally started walking. Terceira was the home of a huge group of Air Force families at one time so the facility is large with long runways. A member named Frank came in his van and drove us around the island. What a nice guy. Born and lived in California until 15 he reminded me of a younger Jim Thomas super nice fellow. He has the beard and hair and was so kind and wanted to show us everything. I thought I was back home. He has milk cows, raises crops and coaches soccer. He is locally famous as a soccer player on the ameatur  level.

Next we were supposed to fly at 8 pm but when we arrived it went off at 10:30. 30 minute flight. We were on a propeller driven airplane really neat.
While there we did try to visit a family but we struck out. Long travel day. Love you.

Sounds like fun, although I don't think the Covid-19 test sounds fun. Beautiful views with the ocean in the background. Love the pictures of grandma, and the airplane ride looks and sounds fun. Love you both! Love Ashley!

P.S. I enjoyed talking to grandma today, although I am kinda sad I missed out on talking to grandpa, but (such it up buttercup)
