Monday October 11

It is p-day and it is raining. We wanted to go out to the volcanic crater that is offshore in the ocean. This is the last week it will be open until June so it was now or never this year. I have put lots of pictures in the blog of the crater from the island, but we had hoped to visit. I went for my early walk and when I got back it was raining pretty good. We waited until 9:00 and went grocery shopping, and we decided to go for it. We purchased tickets for the boat that leaves at noon and walked around while we waited. There was a small old fortress.

Next we got on the boat. What a ride. The ocean was really rough and water was splashing over the sides, good stuff.

We arrived

at the crater and it was really cool. You could walk around on most of it on walkways with steps carved in the lava rock. One place the surf crashes over the walkway at each of the highest waves of the series and would probably knock you down if things were timed wrong, hence the warning sign.
Still messing up the order and placing of pictures. There were no sea shells, but lots of crabs of different colors.
The boats come out with a load of people and then go back with a returning load on the hour so we got on the boat one hour after we had arrived.

The boat ride either way takes about 10 minutes. The ocean was much smoother on the return trip and about half way back it started to rain. Thank goodness for our north face jackets. When we arrived we visited the church with all the steps we had visited on a previous excursion.
When we left and got to the main road it got serious with the rain. Cars had to slow down. We returned to our place and ate American tacos and cake then time for our mission zoom meeting. It really rained hard. This is one place I would return if I get the chance on a warmer day and bring my swim trunks. We love you all.

Super cool although to be honest I couldn't quite figure out were the crater was. Sounds like fun to ride on a boat in the ocean. Sounds like a fun and busy day! I love you guys! Love Ashley!
