Saturday December 11

Today I only took one picture. When I woke up to go walking it was raining and continued to rain for several hours. Just staying in I didn’t get much done. I read a lot and actually did some planning for the next several weeks. What with the 4 day trip to the mainland followed by a shortened workweek because of Christmas activities and then a third shortened workweek caused by New Years there are not a lot of days to get things done. In the afternoon grandma went by herself to a relief society activity and I went on a visit with the elders. I got my one picture a nativity in a gourd.
We came home had a weekly planning meeting where we are trying to choose lessons that will be taught so I can be prepared when called on instead of winging it like I am doing now. Sometimes I haven’t understood the question and so none of us knows what I am going to come out with. We went to teach a part member family and they struggle with understanding what we are saying. Even the elder from Portugal has a hard time getting them to understand him. Although in his case he speaks to softly and likes to try and read lots of scriptures which can be confusing to people who don’t read at a high level. All you kids study hard in school so this doesn’t happen to you. I think I will try to teach a simple principle next time and see if I get better results. We went and I requested that they limit the time to a half hour, but by the time the elder and the family had been sidetracked several times we were there for an hour and a half. Not complaining just wanted to see if we could teach and leave while they were thinking on the things being taught. A simple lesson that was supposed to be on faith became one about love and marriage and trying to raise a family. When they called on me I tried to bring it back with alma and faith being a seed and sort of got there ready for us to retreat, but the elder asked the nonmember wife how she felt about that and she said she couldn’t understand the português elder so her member husband took off to another entirely different topic again. Oh well not my calling I just am here in a supporting role. We got home after 10:00. We finished packing for our trip.not many steps but did what we could. We love you all.

Well, at least they were interested in talking about something. I love that nativity, they are all just so unique and I love it. Beautiful grandma as always especially with the flowers. Love you both! Love Ashley!
