Friday July 15 stranded

Today we were up on time, down for breakfast on time, everything went according to plan. Something must be wrong. We were scheduled for a 10:00 flight to Lisbon, an hour and forty minute lay over then a flight back to the island, the email on our phone said so. We arrived at the aeroporto got our boarding passes and checked our bags, all is going well. The elders and us got on our plane and had a nice flight. I took a lot of pictures as we approached to show the smoke and because I could.

We checked the flight departures and thee was hat awful word canceled. I said wait that’s not our flight number. That is when elder cooper said oh we don’t fly out until tomorrow morning. Now we are going to stay overnight and our bags are who knows where. We waited by the baggage conveyor, but no bags.
We have been to the lost baggage claim area before only this time there was a line and you got a ticket and waited. I had a ticket marked priority so I was able to get to the front of the group. We were not the only ones who missed the change in schedule. They told us to wait and we would have our bags in an hour. Meanwhile we needed to book a hotel and find a place to eat. We ended up reserving rooms at the hotel across from the airport where we stayed two and a half years ago when we fled Portugal because of Covid-19. The luggage arrived and we crossed the busy lanes of traffic and checked in after a little problem on the rooms not being ready. When we got to the rooms our room had a really bad odor, l informed the front desk they said they would take care of it and we headed out. We decided to travel by way of the metro and I actually knew where to go as we had been here before. Did I mention that the missionaries have no money so I have to pay for everything on the mission card. Elder Erickson is going to love this. We road back to the big mall where we ate lunch just 3 days earlier. In route they taught a lesson and met lots of people we left the metro and were hailed by a street person who one of the elders knew.

He sings and they told him I sing we sang a little he said he liked my voice and we needed to go singing together. I passed on that, what would I do with the money.
So we ate a nice lunch and headed back. We all needed to rest. Our room still smelled, and after a little talking we had a different room. I took this picture out our window l took a similar picture two and a half years ago.

We waited until after 7:00 to retrace our journey to eat. Had a bit of an issue with our order but all ended well. Encountered more people who knew the missionaries. We arrived back and off to bed. What a day. We love you all.
