Policia Federal

 Friday January 16.

This morning I had to go to the federal police building to get the paperwork done for my blue card, think green card in the states. I walked over to the mission office to share a taxi with the Sister who works there. On the way I noticed an open carport of vintage cars. Most had covers but one was out.
Arriving at the mission home we soon sat out on our journey. The driver was a really nice member who talked to me a lot . I soon began to recognize areas where we were as we crossed the river and passed the park with the huge ferris wheel. It was fun to travel by car because you can see better than while traveling by bus, and especially since we were above ground as opposed to the metro. We arrived early half an hour before the doors open and an hour before our appointment.

The was around the blocks both ways. The driver said it was like this every day as you need an appointment to even get in. Because we were over 70 we were in first 10 minutes before our appointment and then moved to the front of the line. This kept happening at each station until 30 minutes later all was finished. The other people usually need 3 to 4 hours. The Sister didn’t speak any Portuguese so we had to stick together so she would know what she needed to do. They told us to sit and wait, and we were told it would take about a half hour. 5 minutes later they called the Sisters name and she was good to go. I kept expecting my name to be called each time they came out with a stack of papers, but it was an hour plus before my papers came out. We met up with the driver and off we go. Got a picture of the motos in front of the car.
The storm last night took out a large tree.
The ferris wheel in the distance was neat but difficult to see unless you know where to look.
Need a large screen. Walking back to the apartment I got a picture of a car that has a Brazilian take on a parking brake. Sort of like something you could use up hunting.

Then it was home, lunch, and back to work. We learned how to do another new document. I caught on fairly well and grandma was right with me as soon as I understood enough to explain in English. We finished the whole list before quitting time. Since we pass all the stores on the way home and knowing it would require several trips to get the groceries for the week we chose to get one load on the way home tonight. They had chicken, but this one was larger, better looking and cheaper only $6:50. Getting it home it also tasted great.
We found frozen waffles.
Maybe another day. We got all our food packed up in my backpack plus one bag. Of course it was raining. Hence the picture at the front of the blog. We came home ate and had an early night. Interesting day. Love to all.
