Wednesday February 9

This is another short entry. We strived to be compliant and did not go out of the apartment today. We had district meeting on zoom today and the senior couple on the other island were very concerned about the elder here who tested positive. I am confident that if they knew we also had tested positive that they would not rest until we were headed home or to a quarantine facility. We are feeling much better. Less coughing, still a lot of joint pain for me, and my sense of taste and smell are gone. This was kind of neat. I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies and hardly ate any as the taste is why I like them.
We toughened up and had one good thing the internet was back. Seems they had a cyber attack. Well I spent some time just laying around, and watched a forged in fire. Supper was good for the first bite then just eating. Still interesting. The island doesn’t have heating as we think of it. Just little portable heaters plugged in. Bigger buildings like the church have heat using propane. There are no natural gas lines. Houses use small propane tanks about the size we use on campers except taller and skinnier. Thet hold about the same amount though. All the apartments and comercial buildings have large propane tanks behind or to the side of them. The propane is then metered out and we pay our individual bills. Every day we see trucks driving up and down the roads selling tanks of gas, mostly the small ones but also taller tanks that look like the ones we have of 25 gallons or so. These taller tanks are used in places like our chapel where we have a metal cabinet that holds several of these tanks. The apartment in ribeira grande has three of the small ones. Well I managed to get a blog out so hopefully tomorrow we get out. I don’t want to in any way make light of this sickness but I did expect worse. I realize that different people have different symptoms, and maybe this is the calm before the storm.  I hope it is over and we will test again tomorrow. We love you all.
