Monday February 14

Well it is p-day. Some of the other senior missionaries are expressing a desire to maybe read my blog. This could have an impact on the content. Meanwhile today is sort of laid back. Grandma decided to stay in and do some house chores and cook for lunch with everyone. Meanwhile I drove all 4 young elders to sete cidades (seven cities).  I am tired of visiting there, but it was a rare bright sunny day. We made the short hike out to the look out called the hell’s mouth or gate. The lake is very black and sort of menacing. I didn’t take pictures as I have written about this so many times, and with a huge cruise ship in port there were bus loads of tourists. The best part was the hike itself. It was good to get out and walk again after being quarantined for almost a week. There were lots of seagulls nesting in the hill and cliff sides.

We drove on up to the main lookout where there is an old never finished hotel. While elders found a way in I sat on a bench and watched. Bus loads of tourists came and took pictures and enjoyed the view. This type of experience doesn’t appeal to me, but they seem to find joy. A group of bikers arrived, it is a bit of a ride to arrive up here so they had earned it.

We headed home and I put together a pot of chili. With rice leftover spaghetti and rice we made a lunch of it. We drove the elders from ribeira grande home and had our two meetings. The first was about planning and about language studies. The second was with the other senior missionaries and our internet connection was poor. Seems that most of them have been dealing with covid. All but one couple have it. They discussed the covid guidelines and we have done really well in being compliant. The youth temple trip seems to be the thing that occupies the time. The people who make the most noise get the most attention. A lot like life. I walked well today, but I can tell I get tired a little quicker. Good day. We love you all.
